Building a SaaS Studio in Amaravati

Why we chose to build Ops365 and its sibling products from Andhra Pradesh's new capital city — and what that looks like day to day for a small, product-focused team.

Most Indian SaaS companies are built out of Bengaluru, Hyderabad, or Pune. We're building Ops365 out of Amaravati — Andhra Pradesh's new state capital on the banks of the Krishna river. This is a short note on why, and what it actually looks like in practice.

Why Amaravati

The honest answer is that this is where the founding team is from. But that's not the whole answer.

Andhra Pradesh has one of the highest concentrations of small and medium ISPs and cable operators in India. Tier-2 and tier-3 towns across the state — Guntur, Vijayawada, Nellore, Kurnool, Kakinada — have dozens of independent broadband and cable businesses each, most of them running on spreadsheets, WhatsApp groups, and informal ledgers. We are building for those operators, and being physically close to them means we understand the problems differently than we would from a co-working space in Koramangala.

The field visits, the support calls, the conversations about billing disputes and fiber cuts and customer complaints — they're not abstractions. They're conversations we've had with real operators in the same language, sometimes in the same district.

What Building Here Looks Like

Amaravati is still a developing city. The infrastructure that a Bengaluru startup takes for granted — reliable power, fast internet, a bench of engineers who can be hired immediately — requires more planning here. We run on fibre with a cellular backup. Power cuts are real; UPS and a diesel backup are part of the setup, not an afterthought.

The engineering team is small and deliberate. We don't have the luxury of throwing headcount at a problem. Every feature that ships has to be designed to be maintainable by a small team, tested to be stable without a dedicated QA function, and useful enough to justify its own maintenance burden going forward.

A practical consequence

This is why the platform has no microservices, no Kubernetes, no message queue. It's a Node.js monolith behind nginx on one VPS. That's not a compromise — it's the right architecture for a team this size serving this scale. We can reason about the whole system, deploy in under two minutes, and debug a production issue without a distributed tracing setup.

The Products We're Building

Ops365 started as one product — the ISP / Cable Management platform — and has grown into a studio building vertical SaaS for operational businesses:

  • Ops365 ISP / Cable Management — complaints, billing, field operations, fiber tracking, customer self-service, and more. The product this site describes.
  • InvoiceHub — GST-ready invoicing and quotation software, now at invoicehub.ops365.in.
  • BookingManager — appointment and booking management for service businesses.
  • CARTIVA — a simple shopping cart and order management tool.
  • ElevarA Academy — online education platform at oe.ops365.in.
  • ApartmentManagement (Aptivo) — society and apartment management, in early access.

Each product is a separate codebase, a separate database, a separate PM2 process on the same VPS. They share a deployment philosophy and a design language, nothing else.

What Drives the Work

The ISP operators we build for are running real businesses with real staff, real customers, and real consequences when things break. A billing bug isn't an inconvenience — it's a dispute with a customer who hasn't paid and staff who don't have a clean record to refer to. A missed complaint escalation means a customer without internet for two days instead of one.

Building in Amaravati, close to the operators we serve, keeps that reality present. It's easy to lose it when you're building from a city that has reliable electricity and three ISP redundancies and no direct contact with the kind of operational friction your users navigate every day.

We intend to stay here.
